COLON STREET
The oldest street in the Philippines. Named after Christopher Colombus, it was built
by the Spaniards during the time of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. At present, it is the heart of downtown Cebu, a glittering city
by night lined with restaurants, department stores, and other business establishments.

Rajah Humabon was the first Filipino chieftain to embrace Christianity, regarded as the wizest
and bravest man in the island. When Ferdinand Magellan landed in Cebu on Sunday, April 7, 1521, Rajah Humabon made a blood
compact with Magellan as a symbol of their new found friendship. Captivated by its noble teaching, Rajah Humabon was converted
to Christianity. In remembrance of the occassion Magellan gave Queen Juana (Humabon's wife) an image of the child Jesus
as a gift, while a large cross was erected.
